Private Yoga: Learn techniques to move and feel better.

Katonah Yoga® teaches you how to use your body well.

Without measure, things fall apart. A recipe becomes inedible. A structure becomes unstable. Effort without proportion leads to frustration.

The same is true in yoga.

A practice without measure can feel vague, uncomfortable, or even injurious. Katonah Yoga® applies clear metrics to the body. Angles. Proportion. Orientation. It gives you a way to assess your habits and build new patterns that are efficient and sustainable.

This is where joy comes from. Not performance. Precision.

Private sessions offer focused study. The attention is on you. Your structure. Your tendencies. Your blind spots and your strengths.

We examine how you are built and how you are currently using yourself. Then we refine it.

In our work together, you will learn practical tools of embodiment. We organize your structure through defined measures. We use geometry to create alignment that is intelligent rather than aesthetic. We interrupt habitual patterns and replace them with strategies that are supportive.

Over time, you will notice the shift. How you sit. How you stand. How you walk into a room. Less bracing. Less collapse. More support from your own structure.

Why choose a private session?

Private sessions create space for depth. If you are new to yoga, working with an injury, navigating a health condition, or wanting to refine your understanding, one on one work allows us to move at an appropriate pace.

We use postural technique, breath work, metaphor, mapping, props, and clear hands on feedback when appropriate. Everything is tailored to your body and the season of life you are in.

Katonah Yoga® is not about chasing flexibility or mastering shapes. It is about learning how to live in your body with skill.

Longevity. Clarity. Capacity.

This is applied practice.

These sessions are informed by the teachings of Nevine Michaan, founder of Katonah Yoga®.

FAQs

What happens in a private session?

We begin with a short conversation to check in — what’s going on in your body, your breath, and your life. From there, we move through a customized practice using postures, breathwork, hands-on adjustments (if appropriate), and metaphor.

How long is a session?

Sessions are 60 minutes.

Do I need to be experienced or flexible?

Not necessarily. Katonah Yoga® is designed to help you fit yourself, rather than fit into someone else’s version of the pose. It teaches you to fold your body well, as opposed to stretching yourself into a pretzel. And if you already know how to be a pretzel, Katonah Yoga® will teach you how to keep good boundaries with lots of prop work.

What’s different about a private versus a group class?

Private sessions are tailored entirely to you. Your habits, your patterns, your story, plus you get ALL the adjustments (heavenly!).

Is this a workout or more therapeutic?

It can be both, depending on your needs. Some sessions are physically active and energizing; others are quiet and restorative. The goal is always functional — to leave you feeling more upright, clear, and connected.

Can I book just one session?

Yes. Many people start with a single session to explore Katonah Yoga® techniques.

Are there benefits to long-term sessions?

Yes. Ongoing sessions allow for time to refine the techniques learned, as well as develop a home practice (the key to longevity!)

What props are used?

Wood Blocks = structured support, realigns bones

Blankets = elevates the pelvis, or adjusts the angle in the wrists

Straps = holds good boundaries, contains the posture

Sandbags = gives weight to allow the muscles to relax and let go
