Private Yoga:
Learn techniques to move and feel better.
Private Katonah Yoga sessions offer the space to study this method in a focused and personal way. The attention is on your structure, your habits, and how you are currently using your body.
We use props to create clear boundaries and supportive frameworks, much like scaffolding around a building. This structure helps organize your alignment so the muscles and nervous system can relax while we reframe your neurology.
Hands-on adjustments are offered to inform direction, introduce new perspectives, and create space for the breath and organs to function more efficiently.
Archetypal dialogue and metaphor are woven into the practice to offer new ways of understanding your body, your tendencies, and the patterns you carry. We do not try to fit a mold, but rather use the archetype to inform direction, like reading a map.
Private Katonah Yoga sessions are an opportunity to gain tangible evidence, reform misaligned patterns, and truly see yourself where you are at and effect change in where you are going.
The result is a body that feels more organized, more supported, and more capable of meeting the demands of daily life.
What is Katonah Yoga?
Katonah Yoga® is an intelligent methodology rooted in classical yoga practices (including Hatha, Iyengar, Kundalini, and Tantra), Taoism, mythology, sacred geometry, and the patterns of great nature. It is refined through practical tools such as measure, map reading, metaphor, and strategic use of props, designed to reorganize and reorient your practice and your life!
Private sessions create space for depth. If you are new to yoga, working with an injury, navigating a health condition, or wanting to refine your understanding, one-on-one work allows us to move at an appropriate pace for you.
Using the Katonah Yoga method, we will observe and define your personal habits and tendencies, identifying where you like to go and where your blind spots are.
We will move through postures designed to bring you out of your habits and into alignment, creating freedom and resilience within the body and the mind.
You will feel challenged, informed, supported, and seen during this time designed specifically for you.
These sessions are informed by the teachings of Nevine Michaan, founder of Katonah Yoga®.

FAQs
What happens in a private session?
We begin with a short conversation to check in — what’s going on in your body, your breath, and your life. From there, we move through a customized practice using postures, breathwork, hands-on adjustments (if appropriate), and metaphor.
How long is a session?
Sessions are 60 minutes.
Do I need to be experienced or flexible?
Not necessarily. Katonah Yoga® is designed to help you fit yourself, rather than fit into someone else’s version of the pose. It teaches you to fold your body well, as opposed to stretching yourself into a pretzel. And if you already know how to be a pretzel, Katonah Yoga® will teach you how to keep good boundaries with lots of prop work.
What’s different about a private versus a group class?
Private sessions are tailored entirely to you. Your habits, your patterns, your story, plus you get ALL the adjustments (heavenly!).
Is this a workout or more therapeutic?
It can be both, depending on your needs. Some sessions are physically active and energizing; others are quiet and restorative. The goal is always functional — to leave you feeling more upright, clear, and connected.
Can I book just one session?
Yes. Many people start with a single session to explore Katonah Yoga® techniques.
Are there benefits to long-term sessions?
Yes. Ongoing sessions allow for time to refine the techniques learned, as well as develop a home practice (the key to longevity!)
What props are used?
Wood Blocks = structured support, realigns bones
Blankets or bolsters = elevates the pelvis, or adjusts the angle in the wrists
Straps = holds good boundaries, contains the posture
Sandbags = gives weight to allow the muscles to relax and let go
