Private Yoga: Learn techniques to move and feel better.
Katonah Yoga® teaches you how to use your body well.
Life without measure means the cake you made tastes like salt, or the table you built doesn’t hold up. It makes life more difficult and less enjoyable. And a yoga practice without measure won’t feel good either. It may lead to frustration, injury, or boredom. Katonah Yoga® provides a space to measure up your practice, learn techniques that balance out your habits, and create moments of joy!
You deserve a yoga class where the focus is only on you: your unique habits, your tendencies, your challenges, and your wins. Private Katonah Yoga® sessions give you the time and attention to learn how your body is built to function best, and how to use it well.
In our work together, you’ll learn tools of embodiment: how to organize your structure through defined measures. We use geometry to find proper alignment and get you out of your habitual tendencies. Thus, bringing you to a place where you feel centered, powerful, and capable of whatever life throws your way. You’ll notice yourself sitting, walking, and standing differently; feeling more supported and less tense; and carrying that sense of ease into your daily routines, relationships, and the ways you meet stress.
You may ask, why do I need a private session?
Private sessions offer a focused and supportive space to explore Katonah Yoga® at your own pace. Whether you’re brand new to yoga, working with an injury or condition, or looking to refine your practice, these one-on-one sessions are tailored to your body, your needs, and the season you’re in.
We’ll work with clear postural techniques, breathwork, and functional alignment — using props, adjustments, metaphor, and maps to help you feel more organized, resourced, and at home in yourself.
Katonah Yoga® isn’t just about being flexible or mastering poses. It’s about learning how to use your body well — to create longevity, clarity, and a deeper relationship with yourself.
These sessions are informed by the teachings of Nevine Michaan, founder of Katonah Yoga®.

FAQs
What happens in a private session?
We begin with a short conversation to check in — what’s going on in your body, your breath, and your life. From there, we move through a customized practice using postures, breathwork, hands-on adjustments (if appropriate), and metaphor.
How long is a session?
Sessions are 60 minutes.
Do I need to be experienced or flexible?
Not necessarily. Katonah Yoga® is designed to help you fit yourself, rather than fit into someone else’s version of the pose. It teaches you to fold your body well, as opposed to stretching yourself into a pretzel. And if you already know how to be a pretzel, Katonah Yoga® will teach you how to keep good boundaries with lots of prop work.
What’s different about a private versus a group class?
Private sessions are tailored entirely to you. Your habits, your patterns, your story, plus you get ALL the adjustments (heavenly!).
Is this a workout or more therapeutic?
It can be both, depending on your needs. Some sessions are physically active and energizing; others are quiet and restorative. The goal is always functional — to leave you feeling more upright, clear, and connected.
Can I book just one session?
Yes. Many people start with a single session to explore Katonah Yoga® techniques.
Are there benefits to long-term sessions?
Yes. Ongoing sessions allow for time to refine the techniques learned, as well as develop a home practice (the key to longevity!)
What props are used?
Wood Blocks = structured support, realigns bones
Blankets = elevates the pelvis, or adjusts the angle in the wrists
Straps = holds good boundaries, contains the posture
Sandbags = gives weight to allow the muscles to relax and let go
