Frequently asked questions.

What services do you offer?

I offer acupuncture treatments, Traditional Chinese Medicine therapies, and Katonah Yoga® classes — both private and small group.

Acupuncture treatments support fertility, hormones, digestion, stress, pain, and emotional balance.
Yoga sessions explore structure, breath, and perspective through the Katonah framework to help you build strength, insight, and ease.

Where are you located?

I currently offer treatments and classes at various locations around Parksville.

Please check your confirmation email or Jane App booking page for your appointment details and directions.

(You can always contact me directly if you’re unsure where your session will be held.)

How do I book an appointment or class?

You can book all acupuncture sessions and yoga offerings online through Jane App:
tiraacupunctureyoga.janeapp.com

You’ll be able to choose your service, view availability, and manage your own appointments.

Do you offer direct billing?

Yes — I offer direct billing for most major insurance providers including:

  • TELUS eClaims network (Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Green Shield, Desjardins, Empire Life, Beneva, Industrial Alliance, GroupHEALTH, GroupSource, Johnson, and more)

  • Pacific Blue Cross

  • Medavie Blue Cross (RCMP, Veterans Affairs, CAF)

If your plan is eligible, I can bill your insurer directly at the time of your treatment.

Please bring your insurance card to your first visit or upload your details through your Jane App profile.

If your plan does not support direct billing, you’ll receive a receipt that you can submit for reimbursement.

What is your cancellation policy?

Your appointment time is reserved especially for you.

Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling for acupuncture, and 2 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling of yoga.

Cancellations within the late cancel window or no-shows be charged 100% of the treatment fee.
Exceptions are always made for emergencies or illness.

Do you accept extended health coverage?

Yes — acupuncture is covered under most extended health care plans.

Coverage amounts vary by provider and plan. Please contact your insurance company directly to confirm your benefits.

What can I expect at my first acupuncture visit?

Your first visit includes a comprehensive consultation to understand your health history, main concerns, and wellness goals.

We’ll create a treatment plan that integrates Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis and individualized acupuncture protocols.

The first session typically lasts 75 minutes.

Follow-up sessions are 60 minutes.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most people are surprised by how gentle it feels.

The needles used are extremely fine — about the width of a human hair.

You may feel a light tingling, warmth, or heaviness as energy shifts — these are normal sensations of the treatment working.

Do you treat fertility and reproductive health?

Yes. Fertility, hormonal balance, menstrual health, and menopause support are core areas of my practice.
Treatments are tailored to support natural conception, assisted fertility, and cycle regulation using TCM principles and individualized care.

What should I wear to my appointment or class?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to your lower legs and arms for acupuncture, or freedom of movement for yoga.

If needed, a change room and blankets are available.

What is Katonah Yoga®?

Katonah Yoga® is a unique approach blending geometry, metaphor, and imagination.

It uses structure to help you find stability, measure your potential, and cultivate self-awareness.

Expect intelligent sequencing, creative props, and practical philosophy woven through each class.

How do I pay for my session?

Payment is accepted by credit card (stored in Jane) at the time of your appointment.

If direct billing is successful, you’ll only pay any remaining balance not covered by your plan.

What is your privacy policy?

All personal and medical information is collected for the purpose of your care and kept confidential in accordance with BC’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

Your records are stored securely and never shared without your written consent.
