Group Yoga: A space to learn and grow together.
All classes must be booked online — no walk-ins please.
You may feel intimidated by group classes.
Lonely. Unsure. Too stiff. Too weak. Too new.
You may have tried yoga before and felt disconnected from the space. Like you could not ask questions. Like there was a right way to behave and you were not quite doing it. You may have been adjusted in a way that felt invasive. Or pushed past your own boundaries.
Maybe yoga has felt vague or abstract. Too far removed from real life to be useful.
I understand that. I’ve been there too when I first started my yoga practice.
Then I found Katonah Yoga and finally felt a practice that felt informative, welcoming, and fun. There was laughter. There was rigor. There was permission to learn publicly. To fall. To ask questions. To evolve inside a community that felt steady and safe.
That is the kind of space I create.
This is not about performance. It is about participation.
Katonah Yoga® group classes are a place to move, breathe, and organize your body in the presence of others. We study practical techniques for using the body well. We build strength and stability. We learn to orient ourselves in space.
We practice facing each other in a circle. We observe. We learn collectively. There is no pedestal. No guru. Just people studying a method together.
You can expect clarity, structure, and direct feedback. And a room where you are welcomed as you are.
What is Katonah Yoga®?
Katonah Yoga® is a distinct methodology rooted in classical yoga and refined through practical tools such as measure, geometry, mapping, metaphor, and strategic use of props, designed to reorganize and reorient your practice and your life!
Katonah Yoga® is precise and imaginative. It is not about flexibility. It is about function.
We treat the body like a house. When the frame is well organized, energy moves more efficiently. We find the balance of effort and grace.
Props are used strategically. Hands-on adjustments are clear and consensual. Metaphor is applied in a way that makes the work practical and relevant rather than abstract.
Practicing in a group creates a shared field of learning. Like musicians rehearsing together, each person refines their own skill while contributing to something collective.
Whether you are brand new or experienced, this is a place to reset patterns, build resilience, and develop a relationship with your body that feels capable and grounded.
These classes are informed by the teachings of Nevine Michaan, founder of Katonah Yoga®.

What makes Katonah Yoga® different from other styles?
Katonah Yoga® blends classical yoga with Taoist theory, breathwork, and a strong focus on structure and metaphor. It’s less about flowing and more about using shapes, geometry, and clear techniques to create function and awareness in your body.
Is this a physically demanding practice?
It can be physically engaging, but it’s not about pushing or “power yoga.” It’s about precision, awareness, and developing longevity and strength over time. Every body is met where it’s at.
Do you use props in Katonah Yoga®?
Yes — foam and wood blocks, straps, blankets, bolsters, walls, and other props are often used to support alignment and teach the body's architecture. They’re tools, not crutches.
What’s with all the metaphors?
Metaphor is a key teaching tool in Katonah Yoga®. The body is often described like a house or a map — not just to sound poetic, but to give you a clearer, more imaginative understanding of how to live well inside your form.
Is Katonah Yoga® a spiritual practice?
It can be, but it’s not dogmatic or religious. The approach is rooted in personal insight, rhythm, and self-awareness, using the body as a gateway to a well-oriented life.
Can I try it if I’m totally new to yoga?
Yes. Katonah Yoga® is very beginner-friendly when taught well. It may feel different from what you're used to, but it's accessible and designed to support you from the ground up.
