Group Yoga: A space to learn and grow together.

All classes must be booked online — no walk-ins please.

You may be feeling lonely, scared, unsure of yourself, or too weak or inflexible to attend a group yoga class.

Or you have attended yoga classes in the past, but don’t feel a connection to the space or community. You feel silenced and unable to ask questions. You feel like you must behave a certain way to fit in and that you aren’t truly welcomed or belong there.

Maybe you tried some yoga and were adjusted in a way that felt unsafe, or you were pushed beyond your personal boundaries in a pose.

Or you think yoga is too “out there” and unfamiliar for you to even understand and receive the content.

I’ve been there.

Then I found a space where I could dive into my practice in a place full of connection, understanding, guidance, laughter, information, structure, and relevance. A place where I could learn, fall, laugh, and evolve in a collective space that is safe and supportive. And now I have created a space for you to have these experiences.

This is that place.

Katonah Yoga® group classes are a place to move, breathe, and feel better — together. We learn technical ways to use our bodies well, build strength and ease, and leave class feeling lighter and more grounded. We laugh, we talk, we connect, and we practice facing one another to invite observation and learning as a collective.

This egalitarian practice takes away the idea of a guru. No one is placed on a pedestal. We are all equals and learning together.

Expect to feel seen, heard, and welcomed openly into a space of connection, freedom, and joy!

What is Katonah Yoga®?

Katonah Yoga® is a deeply intelligent and imaginative practice — where geometry meets metaphor, and personal growth unfolds in community.

Katonah Yoga® is a technique that combines yoga postures with breath, imagination, and archetypes to help you use your body well. It’s not about being flexible or performing — it’s about feeling stable, supported, and more at home in yourself.

We see the body like a house, with doors, windows, and a foundation. When the structure is strong and organized, energy flows better, your breath supports you, and life feels easier and more sustainable.

Practicing in a group is like playing music in an orchestra. Everyone brings their own experience, and together we create something bigger than ourselves. We learn from each other, find our rhythm, and leave feeling connected and uplifted.

In Katonah Yoga®, we use props, hands-on adjustments, and playful metaphor to bring both function and freedom into your practice. Whether you’re new to yoga or have been practicing for years, this is a space to reset your patterns, explore with curiosity, and bring more joy into your life.

These classes are informed by the teachings of Nevine Michaan, founder of Katonah Yoga®.

What makes Katonah Yoga® different from other styles?

Katonah Yoga® blends classical yoga with Taoist theory, breathwork, and a strong focus on structure and metaphor. It’s less about flowing and more about using shapes, geometry, and clear techniques to create function and awareness in your body.

Is this a physically demanding practice?

It can be physically engaging, but it’s not about pushing or “power yoga.” It’s about precision, awareness, and developing longevity and strength over time. Every body is met where it’s at.

Do you use props in Katonah Yoga®?

Yes — foam and wood blocks, straps, blankets, bolsters, walls, and other props are often used to support alignment and teach the body's architecture. They’re tools, not crutches.

What’s with all the metaphors?

Metaphor is a key teaching tool in Katonah Yoga®. The body is often described like a house or a map — not just to sound poetic, but to give you a clearer, more imaginative understanding of how to live well inside your form.

Is Katonah Yoga® a spiritual practice?

It can be, but it’s not dogmatic or religious. The approach is rooted in personal insight, rhythm, and self-awareness, using the body as a gateway to a well-oriented life.

Can I try it if I’m totally new to yoga?

Yes. Katonah Yoga® is very beginner-friendly when taught well. It may feel different from what you're used to, but it's accessible and designed to support you from the ground up.
